## Eye Shapes
- **Round:** Large, prominent iris.
- **Monolid:** Narrower eye opening, generally in people of Asian origin.
- **Almond:** Slightly upturned outer corner, described as the ideal form.
- **Deep set:** Positioned noticeably inwards.
- **Prominent:** Sits noticeably forward.

## Common Eye Operations
- **Cataract surgery:** The clouded lens is replaced with an artificial lens.
- **Glaucoma surgery:** Lowers pressure within the eye.
- **Squint surgery:** Corrects the eye muscles so the eyes align.
- **Eyelid surgery:** Corrects drooping eyelids.
- **Vitrectomy:** Clears bleeding, a foreign body or infection in the vitreous and restores the retina to its anatomical state.
- **Intraocular lens surgery:** Lenses placed in the natural lens position to treat myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and cataract.
- **Multifocal lens surgery:** Clear distance, near and intermediate vision without glasses; suits cataract patients and people over forty who do not want glasses.
- **Monofocal lens surgery:** The natural lens is replaced with an artificial one, often during cataract surgery.
- **EDOF lens surgery:** Clear distance and intermediate vision; reading glasses may still be needed for small print.

## Laser Types
- **LASIK:** A thin flap is lifted on the cornea and the tissue beneath is reshaped with an excimer laser. Standard LASIK allows quick recovery.
- **Wavefront LASIK:** Individual measurements for each person; rapid recovery.
- **PRK:** Removes the corneal surface epithelium entirely.
- **iLASIK:** Comfortable for patient and surgeon, with a quick return to daily activities.
- **SMILE:** New generation, minimal incisions, lower risk of dry eye after surgery.
- **No Touch Laser (Trans PRK):** Performed without touching the eye.

The best method depends on the eye's structure, shape and condition, determined by a specialist.

## Common Eye Conditions
- **Myopia:** Difficulty seeing at distance.
- **Hyperopia:** Difficulty seeing at near.
- **Astigmatism:** Blurred vision at near and distance.
- **Presbyopia:** Age-related loss of near vision.
- **Keratoconus:** Distortion of the corneal shape.

## Eye Colours
- **Brown:** One of the most common worldwide.
- **Blue:** Less melanin; genetically rare.
- **Green:** One of the rarest.
- **Hazel:** Mix of brown and green; very few people have it.
- **Grey:** A cool tone resembling blue but less vivid.

## Types of Eye Allergy
- **Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis:** Symptoms generally in spring.
- **Contact lens allergy:** Reaction to wearing lenses.
- **Giant papillary conjunctivitis:** In people who have worn lenses for a long time.
