> **Summary:** There is no single age limit for laser eye surgery; it varies from person to person, but it is generally performed from the age of 18 once the prescription has stopped changing, and over 45 intraocular lens options are also considered. Older patients can have successful surgery depending on their health, though conditions such as cataract may be an obstacle.

## Quick Facts
- **Minimum age:** 18, when body and eye structure settle
- **Over 45:** Lens options are also considered alongside laser
- **Prescription stability:** Unchanged for at least 1 year
- **Showering:** Not for 24 hours after the operation
- **Painkillers:** Only types that do not thin the blood

## Why 18?
Body and eye structure change greatly in childhood and adolescence and settle after 18. Surgery earlier may lose its effect if the prescription later increases; genetic predisposition also matters. Surgery can be done earlier only in very rare cases of more serious visual impairment or risk, not for ordinary nearsightedness or farsightedness.

## Prescription Stability
The prescription must not have changed for at least 1 year, confirmed with regular check-ups and a decision made with the doctor. For example, a 22-year-old whose prescription changed 4 months ago may not be considered suitable.

## Older Patients
The same criteria apply to older people. With age the eye's structure changes and lens problems may occur, so over the age of 45 intraocular lens options are also considered alongside laser. Some older patients have very successful surgery, but health status is a major factor. Chronic diseases should be discussed with the doctor; eye diseases, cataract, genetic conditions and a constantly increasing prescription can prevent surgery. It is useful not to wait until an advanced age.

## After Surgery
- Follow all the doctor's instructions, use the drops daily and attend check-ups on time.
- Wear sunglasses for a while and do not look directly at light or the sun.
- Never rub the eyes.
- Do not shower for 24 hours, to prevent inflammation and infection.
- If needed, use only painkillers that do not thin the blood.
- Rest well and wear your glasses.

## Normal Symptoms After Surgery
- Burning and stinging for a few hours; stinging is the most common symptom
- Watering or dry eye
- Headache
- Pain on the first day

Consult a doctor if symptoms are very severe or become unbearable.
