## What is Laser Eye Surgery?
Also known as excimer laser treatment, it reshapes the cornea so light focuses correctly on the retina. The page describes it as among the lowest-risk eye operations, with a very low rate of eye damage. The patient's condition and expectations are reviewed beforehand; if vision problems are likely to return, the patient is directed to glasses or lenses instead.

## Who Can Have It?
- At least 18 years old.
- Eye shape and structure suitable for laser; no very thin cornea or very high-level eye disorders.
- Most suitable: patients with myopia or astigmatism aged 20-35. From 35 the decision needs more care; expectations of patients aged 40-45 should be discussed.
- Age 45 and over: laser not recommended because of presbyopia; multifocal lens surgery is preferable.
- Not applied in pregnant or breastfeeding women; people with diabetes may recover very late.

**Refractive limits:**
- **Myopia:** Up to 10
- **Hyperopia:** Up to 5 (depending on the method)
- **Astigmatism:** Up to 5

## Prices
| Method | Price (Per Eye) |
| :--- | :--- |
| **iLASIK** | £550 |
| **No Touch laser** | £550 |
| **ReLEx SMILE PRO** | £995 |

A high eye prescription does not change the laser fee.

## Is It Permanent?
Correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism is generally permanent. Presbyopia, part of natural ageing, cannot be fully prevented: from around the age of 45, people who had laser can also develop near vision difficulty.

## Methods
- **PRK / No Touch Laser:** Applied to the corneal surface without a flap; particularly suitable for thin corneas. Recovery is a little longer, results safe and effective long term.
- **iLASIK (Femto LASIK):** A femtosecond laser creates a thin flap, then the error is corrected. Quick recovery, no pain during the operation (mild pain or grittiness for a few days); needs sufficient corneal thickness.
- **ReLEx SMILE PRO (lenticule surgery):** A small piece of tissue formed inside the cornea is removed through a very small incision; the cornea's structure is largely preserved and dry eye risk may be lower. Often preferred for dry eyes and people who play sport.

The suitable method is decided after a detailed eye examination.
