> **Summary:** Multifocal lens replacement surgery replaces the eye's natural lens, which hardens with age and causes presbyopia, with an artificial lens that has multiple focal points. It aims to give clear vision at every distance and reduce dependence on glasses, especially for people over 40 and those with cataract.

## Quick Facts
- **Operation Duration:** 15-20 minutes per eye
- **Recovery Time:** 3-4 days
- **Anesthesia:** Topical anesthetic eye drops; no general anesthesia, no needles
- **Stitches:** None

## What Is a Multifocal Lens?
The natural lens is flexible in youth and refocuses from near to far. Over the years it hardens and loses flexibility, which starts presbyopia (age-related loss of near vision). In multifocal lens surgery, the natural lens is removed through a tiny incision and replaced with an artificial lens with multiple focal points, so near and distance vision no longer require separate glasses.

## Who Is It Suitable For?
- People over 40 who have become dependent on reading glasses.
- People with both a distance problem (myopia or hyperopia) and presbyopia.
- People who have started to develop cataract and want to treat the cataract and stop wearing glasses in one surgery.
- People with an active life who are tired of the limitations of glasses.

Not everyone is suitable. Eye structure, expectations and general health matter, so a detailed preliminary examination determines the plan.

## The Treatment Journey

### 1. Before Treatment
- Detailed preliminary examination to assess eye structure, expectations and general health.

### 2. During Treatment
- The eye is numbed with anesthetic drops; the patient lies down awake.
- A tiny incision is made, the old lens is removed and the multifocal lens is placed. No stitches.
- About 15-20 minutes per eye.

### 3. After Treatment
- Return to daily activities such as driving and watching TV within a few days (3-4 days recovery).
- Vision is not perfectly clear immediately; eyes and brain need time to adapt.
- Rings around lights, especially when driving at night, are normal and temporary at first.
- Use the prescribed drops regularly and attend check-ups; vision becomes clearer and more settled day by day.
