# Our Laser Technology

> **Summary:** This page lists the laser and diagnostic devices Kudret Eye uses for laser vision correction and explains what each one does. Laser vision correction has a proven record of safety and predictability since the 1990s; the outcome depends on equipment quality and measurement accuracy.

## Quick Facts
- **Suitability examination:** A single visit, about an hour and a half
- **Before the examination:** Soft contact lenses out for 5 days, hard lenses for 2 weeks
- **Wavefront measurement:** Refractive error recorded at over 1,200 points in one scan

## Technologies & Devices Used
- **iDesign Advanced WaveScan Studio:** Captures the eye's optical "fingerprint" (refractive error at over 1,200 points, corneal topography, pupil metrics) in one scan; the map is passed to the excimer laser so treatment follows the eye's own map.
- **iTrace:** Vision-quality analyser that splits total refractive error into corneal and natural-lens parts; used when choosing between laser and lens replacement and when choosing a trifocal lens.
- **ZEISS VisuMax 800:** Femtosecond laser behind ReLEx SMILE PRO; removes a lenticule through a 2-4 mm incision with no flap, cutting in under 10 seconds per eye with eye-movement tracking.
- **ZEISS VISUMAX 500:** Femtosecond laser on which ReLEx SMILE was developed; removes a lenticule through a small incision without a flap, using a gentle suction ring and a curved interface matched to the eye.
- **IntraLase iFS 150 kHz:** First step of iLASIK; creates the corneal flap 100 % blade-free in seconds at the thickness and shape the surgeon sets, more predictable than the older microkeratome. Part of the iLASIK platform developed by Abbott Medical Optics, today part of Johnson & Johnson Vision.
- **FEMTO LDV Z8:** Mobile femtosecond laser for corneal and cataract surgery with very low pulse energy and very high repetition rate; raises flaps, opens the lens capsule and fragments the lens; it is wheeled to the table.
- **VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer:** Excimer laser of iLASIK's second step; reshapes the cornea with micron precision, infrared eye tracking keeps pulses on target, and with iDesign data it delivers wavefront-guided treatment.

## The Laser Evaluation Process
Suitability for laser is decided in a single examination of about an hour and a half. Contact-lens wearers leave soft lenses out for 5 days and hard lenses for 2 weeks beforehand.
- **Initial consultation:** Expectations, medical history and glasses or lens use.
- **Visual acuity:** Both eyes, with and without correction.
- **Refraction:** Prescription confirmed by machine and by the surgeon.
- **Corneal topography:** Surface map of the cornea; reveals conditions such as keratoconus.
- **Corneal thickness:** Pachymetry, which sets the safe limit for laser.
- **Pupil measurement:** In dim light, for night-vision planning.
- **Dry-eye test:** Tear volume and quality; dryness is treated first if present.
- **Retinal examination:** Retina and optic nerve checked with dilated pupil.
- **Results and choice of method:** The surgeon reviews all measurements and recommends the most suitable method.
