> **Summary:** YAG laser clears the clouding (posterior capsule opacification) that can develop over time in the capsule holding the lens implant after cataract surgery. A small opening is made in the centre of the cloudy capsule without any incision, and vision becomes clear again with a short recovery and very low risk.

## Quick Facts
- **Operation Duration:** 1-2 minutes in total; the laser itself works for only a few seconds
- **Recovery Time:** Same day
- **Anaesthesia Type:** Anaesthetic eye drops
- **Incision:** None

## What Is YAG Laser Treatment?
After the cataractous lens is removed, the new lens sits in a thin membrane called the capsule. In some eyes this posterior capsule thickens or whitens over time. This is the most common late consequence of cataract surgery; it does not mean the operation went wrong and it is not dangerous. The ophthalmologist uses laser light to open a small hole in the centre of the cloudy capsule, restoring clear vision. Healing is short and the risk of complications is very low.

## Who Is It Suitable For?
- People who have had cataract surgery and developed posterior capsule opacification.
- It may not suit every patient; the ophthalmologist assesses suitability.

## Risks and Possible Side Effects
The treatment involves no incision in the eye and carries very low risks; most effects are temporary.
- **Temporary rise in eye pressure:** Measured after treatment, controlled with drops if needed.
- **Floaters:** May be noticed in the first days, usually fade quickly.
- **Mild inflammation:** Settles with a few days of drops.
- **Retinal detachment:** Very rare; sudden flashes, new floaters or a shadow across vision need immediate contact.

## Price
The price depends on the underlying cause, the procedure and the special examination and detailed measurements needed; the plan is set individually.
