What is laser eye treatment?

Laser eye treatment is a surgical procedure to correct refractive errors in the eye by applying laser beams on the cornea (transparent layer of the eye). It is used to treat vision problems such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia.

What is iLASIK?

iLASIK is a bladeless laser surgery procedure used to treat eye defects. Vision is corrected by creating a flap on the cornea with a laser and changing the shape of the cornea. This procedure offers a short recovery period.

What are the differences between LASEK and PRK laser treatments?

LASEK and PRK are traditional laser treatment methods. In PRK the surface layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed before the laser is applied and grows back within a few days, while in LASEK this layer is loosened, moved aside and laid back after the laser. Both methods are used in the treatment of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

What is an intraocular lens?

Intraocular lenses are specially designed lenses used in intraocular lens treatment, especially to help correct visual defects. Multifocal lenses, unlike conventional lenses, can have multiple focal points, allowing patients to see clearly at near, medium and far distances without glasses. These lenses are especially used in the treatment of cataracts and visual impairments.

Who is suitable for intraocular lens treatment?

Intraocular lens treatment is especially suitable for patients who have refractive errors such as cataract, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and who want to see without glasses. However, it may not be suitable for patients with other eye diseases.

What are the advantages of an intraocular lens?

Intraocular lenses enable glasses-free vision at far, medium and near distances, thus eliminating the use of glasses or contact lenses.

Who can have cataract?

Since cataract is an age-related condition, it becomes more common after the age of 55-60. However, it can also be seen in newborn babies, diabetics, people who have been hit in the eye and long-term cortisone medication users.

What are the symptoms of cataract?

The most common complaints caused by cataracts are decreased vision, sensitivity to light, double vision, difficulty in reading, subsequent distant vision impairment, yellowing and dulling of colours.

Is cataract treated with medication?

Cataract cannot be treated with medication or glasses. The treatment is performed by replacing the opaque natural lens in the eye with a transparent lens compatible with the tissue of the eye. The operation is performed under anaesthetic eye drops, without putting the patient to sleep.

Eye Diseases

61 questions
What are the differences between myopia and hyperopia?

Myopia causes the eye to see objects at far distances blurred, while in hyperopia the eye focuses light behind the retina; near objects in particular look blurred, and as the degree increases distant objects blur too. Both conditions are caused by the eye's inability to focus light properly.

What is astigmatism and how is it treated?

Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or lens in the eye is not properly curved. This causes light not to focus properly on the retina and images appear blurred or distorted. Glasses, lenses or laser surgery can be used to treat astigmatism.

What is strabismus and how is it treated?

Strabismus is a condition in which the two eyes are not parallel. While one eye looks straight, the other eye may shift in different directions. Strabismus can be treated with glasses, exercise or surgical intervention.
