Examination and treatment approach
Every patient’s journey starts with a detailed eye examination: visual acuity, eye pressure, cornea and retina assessment and any imaging tests are completed in the same visit. The treatment decision is based on these measurements, the patient’s age, the distances they rely on most in daily life and their general health; the options, expected results and possible risks are discussed together with the patient. When surgery is needed, pre-operative preparation and post-operative check-ups are followed by the same team.
Tests used in the examination
An eye examination is more than reading a prescription: the treatment decision rests on measurements of the eye itself. These tests are completed in the same visit, they are painless and most of them never touch the eye.
- Refraction and corneal curvature: the first automated measurement; the prescription found during the examination is built on it.
- Eye pressure: measured without touching the eye; a short puff of air, no drops.
- Corneal map: topography and Scheimpflug scanning give thickness and curvature; keratoconus screening and laser suitability rest on this map.
- Quality of vision: wavefront analysis separates how much of the error comes from the cornea and how much from the lens inside the eye; this is the measurement weighed when choosing between laser and lens exchange.
- Retina and optic nerve: OCT cross-sections, colour fundus photography and visual field testing; macular, glaucoma and diabetes-related changes show up before the patient notices them.
- Optical biometry: when surgery is planned, the power of the intraocular lens is calculated from these measurements.
Which tests are needed is decided during the examination. Every device is listed on the Our Technology page.
