Anaesthesia in eye surgery

Most eye operations are performed under local or topical anaesthesia while the patient is awake and pain-free; sedation or general anaesthesia is preferred for children, longer operations and very anxious patients. Before surgery Dr. Alçı reviews the patient's general health, medication and allergies and plans the most suitable anaesthesia together with the surgeon; she monitors vital signs throughout the operation and follows the recovery afterwards.
