How Long Does Laser Eye Surgery Take?
With the development of technology, operations carried out with a laser are very common. Through them both the surgeon and the patient manage the process very comfortably. In laser treatments, patients are generally not given a general anaesthetic. The eye being operated on is numbed with drops, so the patient is discharged a short time after the operation is complete. After laser surgery patients generally feel only mild discomfort or stinging, which usually settles quickly. Laser eye surgery takes 5-10 minutes in total, from entering to leaving the operating room, and the laser itself works for 20-30 seconds per eye, depending on the prescription. A general examination then follows and the patient is discharged. Patients can usually return to their daily activities within a day or two.
How Long Does Multifocal Lens Surgery Take?
Multifocal lens surgery is an operation completed in a short time. It is carried out with anaesthetic eye drops, and only mild discomfort may be felt. The patient can go home the same day, and the operation takes about 15-20 minutes per eye.How Long Does Cataract Surgery Take?
The question of how long cataract surgery takes generally comes to the minds of people affected by this condition. In cataract surgery an artificial lens is fitted in place of the clouded lens within the eye, so that the patient's vision problem clears in a short time. The operation generally takes about 15-20 minutes per eye (the time spent in the operating theatre). Recovery takes somewhat longer than with laser eye surgery: patients usually return to daily life within 3-4 days, while full recovery takes 3-4 weeks. A general anaesthetic is generally not used in cataract surgery either. The procedure is carried out with drop anaesthesia, and in some situations sedatives are given so that the patient does not become anxious. How Long Does Pterygium Surgery Take?
Pterygium surgery is an operation carried out under local anaesthesia. During the operation the pterygium is removed and a piece of tissue called conjunctiva is grafted onto the white layer of the eye in its place. Following this procedure the risk of the pterygium forming again falls considerably. After the operation, treatment generally continues with drops containing antibiotics and corticosteroid. A dressing or a lens may be applied to the eye during this period. The operation is completed in about 20-30 minutes. Afterwards the patient is expected to return to normal life within a few days, and complications are generally rare. How Long Does Vitrectomy Take?
Vitrectomy is carried out on people at risk of blindness. The main aim of the operation is to treat the clouding that forms in the vitreous layer filling the back of the eye, and the disorders that form in the retinal layer. Because it is carried out in the inner and rear parts of the eye that are not visible from outside, it is a major operation. Vitrectomy varies with the patient's situation. Some patients are out within half an hour while for others the operation lasts two hours. A simple bleed arising during the operation may take half an hour, while a traction retinal detachment procedure can exceed two hours. The times vary with the patient's situation, with the surgical procedure and with what has to be done. How Long Does Squint Surgery Take?
Squint surgery comes in two forms, for inward deviation and for outward deviation. The deviation that forms can lead to reduced vision, and in patients of this kind psychological health is generally affected as much as physical health. In squint surgery too, the time varies with the patient's situation. The operation takes about 30-60 minutes per eye, depending on the number of muscles corrected; where the angle of deviation is large and more muscles are corrected, it takes longer.
